The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Bethesda – Washington, DC is just a few miles from the tours, events, attractions, monuments, and business district of Washington, DC and is within walking distance of over 100 shops, restaurants and local attractions in downtown Bethesda. The hotel is a 9 minute walk (0.5 miles) from the Metrorail red line Bethesda station in the heart of downtown Bethesda.

A limited number of rooms for meeting attendees have been reserved at a rate of $249 per night  for a standard room and are available for Tuesday, September 25, 2018 through Friday, September 28, 2018. Directions from DoubleTree Hotel to NIH Campus Entrance: Click on ‘more options’ in map below for details on traveling by bus or by walking. The total distance from the DoubleTree hotel to Natcher is 0.7 miles. The bus ride takes about 11 minutes and runs every 15 minutes. Please allow extra time to get through security at the NIH entrance (for more details, see Getting to NIH Campus below).

Reagan National Airport (DCA) is the closest airport to the hotel at 12 miles and is accessible by Metrorail service. Dulles International Airport (IAD) is 26 miles from the hotel, and Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is 35 miles from the hotel.

Alternate Transportation

  • Union Station (Amtrak’s headquarters): A superbly restored, historic, mixed-use, inter-modal transportation and shopping center located just blocks from the U.S. capitol Building. The terminal is served by Metro, Amtrak, MARC, and VRE commuter railroads, and is the main bus terminal of Washington DC as well as a drop off and pick up center for many DC tour bus operators.
  • Metrorail: The easiest mode of public transportation in the Washington DC region. Bethesda Station on the red line is the closest Metro stop (0.5 miles from the hotel).
  • Metrobus: Provides more than 400,000 trips each weekday serving 11,500 bus stops in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Metrobus is the sixth busiest bus agency in the United States, with a fleet of more than 1,500 buses operating on 325 routes

Getting to NIH Campus

Please review this important information from NIH about getting to NIH Campus, including requirements for entrance through the NIH Gateway Center. Note that all visitors will need one (1) form of identification (a government-issued photo ID-driver’s license, passport, green card, etc.) and to state the purpose of their visit.

The NIH Gateway Center is located adjacent to the Medical Center Metro Station at the South Drive entrance to campus from Rockville Pike / Wisconsin Avenue (Route 355). It combines visitor parking, non-commercial vehicle inspection and visitor ID processing, all in one location. The NIH will process all visitors in vehicles or as pedestrians.
